Building to make more resilient crypto networks
Since I first entered the crypto ecosystem years ago, I realized that without Censorship Resistance, blockchain lacks one of its core values to truly serve humanity. In fact, in some cases, it might even be more practical to replace a blockchain with a SQL database or an Excel spreadsheet for the sake of efficiency.
After spending time in the industry, I’ve learned three key insights:
Decentralization is important for supporting censorship resistance.
Decentralization is a spectrum—it’s not an absolute state.
The path to decentralization is gradual. It won’t happen overnight, and we may never reach 100% decentralization. Perhaps that level isn’t even necessary or desirable in every case.
As we move forward on this journey, infrastructure builders create solutions in phases, making trade-offs, fostering adoption, and experimenting. As ecosystems born from these new products grow, participants work to make them stronger, more resilient, and ensure they fulfill the promises they were built upon.
In this context, we at WakeUp Labs are proud to contribute to the technological growth and strengthening of these ecosystems.
We have built an open-source dApp for the Arbitrum ecosystem that aligns with our vision of strengthening the reliability and resilience of crypto infrastructure.
Our tool, which has received over 99% approval from the DAO, aims to prevent censorship and ensure decentralization on Arbitrum. The Arbitrum Sequencer, which batches L2 user transactions into L1, is vital but can become a single point of failure. If the Sequencer behaves badly or fails, transactions could be delayed, blocked, or even censored. While there are workarounds, they are often not user-friendly.
Our goal is to provide an alternative way to submit transactions, enhancing the network's resilience while giving users more control and confidence in the Arbitrum ecosystem. We're focused on increasing decentralization, empowering users, and ensuring trustless security on the crypto infrastructure. By enabling users to send transactions directly to L1, they can avoid Sequencer issues or censorship, ensuring uninterrupted transaction capabilities. This also helps maintain the integrity of Arbitrum's trustless security model, even if parts of the system become unavailable.
This open-source tool we created at WakeUp Labs represents a significant step forward in reinforcing the Arbitrum network and staying true to its core principles of decentralization.
